Women keep their Heads

Mar 22 2006

Northwich Chronicle

ROWING: NORTHWICH sent five crews to the North Head of the River held on the Dee at Chester at the weekend and grabbed three shares of the glory.

The women's 1st eight won their category in 17mins 49secs and were closely followed in by the 2nds in a creditable time of 18.34.

Northwich Women's Veterans were runners-up in their category in 17.33 while the men's two crews heading for the London Head next week performed admirably.

The 1st eight were only pipped by the host club and clocked 15.52, while the 2nds were timed at 16.36.

Also racing on Saturday were two crews ostensibly from Liverpool Victoria rowing club.

As featured on these pages recently the oarsmen are being coached by Sir Steve Redgrave and Northwich Rowing Club's Paul Rafferty for a TV series due to be shown in September.

Their boats clocked 16.10 and 16.21. The aim is to coach a novice crew to get to qualify for Henley.
