CHESTER CITY last night inquired about the availability of the Northwich Victoria midfielder Carlos Roca.
The 22-year-old Mancunian joined the Blue Square National club from Oldham Athletic last year after making a handful of Football League appearances for the Boundary Park outfit.
It could well be that a cash-plus-player offer may well swing the deal in City’s favour. Northwich made an inquiry about Chester’s transfer-listed striker Lee Steele last week.
City chairman Stephen Vaughan said last night: “Bobby Williamson (Chester manager) has seen the player on a couple of occasions, and he is of the opinion that he would improve our existing squad.
“We are aware that another club is showing an interest in the player, so hopefully the packages that we offer to the player and to Northwich will tip the scales our way.”
Meanwhile, Chester are in action tonight, when they make the short journey to Rivacre Park to face Vauxhall Motors (kick-off 7.30pm) in a rearranged match. The game was originally scheduled to be played 10 days ago, but the fixture was cancelled because of a waterlogged pitch.
Chester have recorded victories against Telford United and Connah’s Quay Nomads, and a draw last Saturday against Droylsden in their three senior warm-up fixtures so far, and they will be keen to extend their unbeaten run tonight.
Chester are expected to give a run out to trialist midfielder Mark Hughes this evening and new signing Tony Grant could also be involved if he shakes off a minor injury.
Chester’s youth team are also in action.
They face League of Wales club Airbus (UK) at Broughton.
