Northwich Vics 1 Chester City 3

Aug 10 2007

Chester Chronicle

A WONDER goal from Paul McManus set the seal on an impressive away win for the Blues in their final warm-up fixture on Monday.

The teenage forward came off the bench to create Chester's second goal and score a superb third in the 76th minute, weaving his way through the Vics defence before beating keeper Andrew Murphy with a clinical finish.

Chester assistant boss Malcolm Thomson, who took charge of the team while boss Bobby Williamson watched from the main stand, said: 'It was great. Anybody would have enjoyed that. He's gone from the halfway line and I think he's dipped his shoulder about 5,000 times and scored!'

Chester fielded a team featuring a mix of senior players and youngsters.

The visitors fell behind in the 43rd minute when keeper John Danby failed to punch clear a cross from Michael Byrne, allowing Dino Maamria to head home.

Simon Yeo drew City level six minutes into the second half before trialist Adam Walker took on a pass from McManus to make it 2-1.

Then it was left to McManus to steal the show with his late stunner.

Chester: Danby, Marples, Sandwith, Roberts, Marsh-Evans, Grant (Rule 52), Walker, Carroll, Yeo (McManus 52), Rutherford, Newton.
