Hoole edge eight-goal thriller

Sep 7 2007

Chester Chronicle

HOOLE Rangers maintained their strong start to the season in the Premier Division on Wednesday despite stern resistance from early strugglers Chester Nomads 2nds.

At half-time the hosts, placed bottom, were drawing 3-3 with Rangers, Mitch Winstanley, Ian Hastings and Paul Roberts scoring for the visitors.

But after the break, a Lloyd Palmer double knocked the stuffing out of Nomads and they lost 5-3 - their fourth straight defeat.

Tarvin Athletic conducted a midweek demolition of hosts Crossway, winning 8-2. Adam Crimes bagged four with Simon Protheroe (2), John Winker and Phil Hill completing the set. Phil Goff and Andy Thomas were on target for Crossway.

Newton Bears' John Briscoe, Darren Holmes and Lee Woodworth secured a 3-1 victory over Duddon United, Sean Roberts replying. Away side Kelsall beat Frodsham United 1-0.

In Division One, Highfield Athletic Reserves fired five past Cestrian Alex, who offered no reply. Adam Langton got a hat-trick and Ross Broadbent and Lee Cooke finished things off.

AFC Bebington v Parkgate and Helsby v Sutton Way Villa both ended goalless, but Robin Hood defeated hosts Barrow Athletic 4-2, Barrow's goals coming from Tom Wilkinson and Adam Atkinson.

* On Monday, Castrol Social maintained their 100% record in the Premier Division with a 3-0 win over Kydds Athletic. Steve Finlay, Steve Morgan and Phil Abraham did the honours.

Highfield Athletic enjoyed a 3-2 win at Waggon and Horses thanks to a freak deflected goal from 35 yards. Liam Edwards and Gary Ellams looked to have secured a point for Waggon, canceling out Liam Green and Scott Broadbent's strikes. But Chris Larson unleashed a speculative drive that struck a body and flew past the keeper.

In Division Two, Luke Hughes, Matty Russell, Stuart Musgrave and Scott Ditchfield (2) handed Saughall Thursday a 5-4 win over Chester Nomads 6 ths.
