JUST when it seemed as if Vauxhall had ironed out their early season defensive problems, their soft centre came back to haunt them and Stalybridge took full advantage to claim a handsome Blue Square North victory.
The Motormen began well enough and took the lead on 21 minutes when Johnson’s lofted pass put Taylor through, and the striker made no mistake with a shot inside the far post.
But Celtic were back on level terms just six minutes later when Burbeary played a simple headed pass to Winn to lob over the stranded Lake in the home goal, with the Motors defence nowhere.
Just before the interval, the visitors edged in front as Payne headed powerfully home from a corner, but Motors equalised from the penalty spot through Furlong just five minutes after the break, to give them fresh hope. But this lasted barely five minutes, before Payne swept home his second of the afternoon following a quick free-kick.
Celtic entered the comfort zone on 62 minutes as Hall headed home a fourth at the near post, following another set-piece on the side of the home area and before the end, the Stalybridge fans were celebrating again, when Payne popped up at the far post to nod back across goal, for Barlow to head home a fifth.
