Vauxhall Motors 3 Alfreton Town 2

Sep 7 2007

Chester Chronicle

THERE is just no stopping Motors hotshot Paul Taylor.

The livewire striker has been in electric form all season and on Saturday he took his goals tally to six in six matches with a double against Alfreton.

Taylor's brace helped turn a half-time deficit into a much-needed victory - and it came against a side which arrived at Rivacre Park on the back of two impressive wins over Tam-worth and Boston United.

The Motormen began brightly and took the lead on nine minutes when former Manchester City trainee Taylor raced on to a long ball from Lee Furlong and beat the onrushing Alfreton keeper Jamie Green with a deft header.

Green then made smart saves from Taylor and Steve Johnson, before Anthony Wright wasted a glorious chance to add to Taylor's early strike.

The visitors then struck back with venom. Kris Bowler hit a sweet volley against the crossbar and, shortly after, unmarked Town striker Brian Cus-worth stooped to head home an equaliser on 28 minutes.

Four minutes later, Alfreton went in front as Matt Wilson pulled away from his marker and planted a firm header beyond Sean Lake in the home goal from a corner.

Ten minutes into the second half, Motors were awarded a controversial penalty when Taylor was sandwiched in the box.

Furlong stepped up to dispatch the spot-kick in style and, nine minutes later, he provided the ammunition for Taylor to beat Green with a delightful lob and earn the Motormen the three points.

* Motors' next match is away to Harrogate Town tomor row.
