New Brighton 42, Tyldesley 12

Sep 24 2007

by Andrew Stratton, Liverpool Daily Post

NEW BRIGHTON maintained their unbeaten record in North Two West Leaguewith a comfortable victory at Hartsfield.

A pedestrian Tyldesley took an early lead but the Blues were in charge by half-time and advanced their scoreline in the second period.

Rick Hopkin enjoyed an excellent game at full-back with three tries. There was also a lively contribution from scrum-half Mike Gallimore before he was forced off through injury during the second period.

Heath Cruikshank crossed after eight minutes for the visitors following a good break by Paul Martin and it was not until the 23rd minute that Brighton registered with a Stephen Dean penalty.

Gallimore then scampered over from a quickly-taken tap penalty before Alan Hesketh snapped up a loose ball after Gallimore’s run for a corner touch-down.

Hopkin went in again before the break with Dean converting for a 20-5 advantage.

The Blues were denied two more tries through poor handling but controlled the second period as Kati Tuipulotu from a push over, Hopkin in a move started by Gallimore, Hopkin after a Hesketh kick through and Adam Baird from forward pressure after another tap penalty all crossed and Dean added another goal.

Tyldesley had to be content with a second try via Gareth Jones with Shane Edmunds adding the extras.
