WIRRAL registered a third successive South Lancashire/Cheshire One victory to maintain their excellent start to the new season.
It could not have been closer as Vagabonds beat the Isle of Man 27-26. The Wirral forwards did well to in the main contain the home eight while the backs capitalised on limited possession.
Wirral secured tries via Alistair Baker, Matt Slater, Dan Harvey and Colin Davies with Harvey on target with two of the conversions and a penalty.
Widnes were edged out 23-21 at home to unbeaten Wilmslow as they missed a last-ditch conversion which would have levelled things out.
Too often Widnes went unrewarded for periods of pressure and aim to right things this weekend at Ruskin Park when Liam Morton and Kevin Farrow could be back in the line-up.
