Tongan’s move is set to fall through

Sep 19 2007

New Brighton

by Andrew Stratton, Liverpool Daily Post

NEW BRIGHTON’S hopes of signing a Tongan centre have run into difficulties.

The club has been unable to complete the registration formalities for Fimenone Fling Mau and it now seems unlikely he will become a member of the squad.

Meanwhile the Blues, after a couple of traumatic years, are delighted with a good start to the new season. They followed up a last-gasp single-point victory over Vale of Lune with a 26-26 draw at Chester.

Certainly the Brighton faithful have had full value to date although the nerves have been somewhat stretched.

Defeat looked likely at Hare Lane until a late surge. “It was a fair result after a pulsating encounter,” claimed Blues spokesman Doug Thorpe.

Stephen Dean played a big part with two conversions after tries by Mike Gallimore and Chris Dale plus four penalties.

Brighton included lock forward Adam Baird on the bench. He has made progress through the ranks and could have a part to play in the future.

Next up for the Wirral side in North Two West is a home clash with Tyldesley on Saturday and they will be hoping some of their walking wounded will be fit to take part after a draining encounter last weekend.

“The club is more buoyant just now than it has been for three years and we are hoping for a good response from our followers for the Tyldesley clash,” said Guy Hughes.
