Starr-studded line up unveiled

SPRING is already in the air at the Lyceum Theatre which has announced in programme for the first half of 2007.

Leading the spring-summer season bill is the hamster-eating Liverpudlian comedian Freddie Starr who brings his madcap stage antics on March 29.

One of Britain's best-loved and most enduring performers, he has cemented his place in the Comedy Hall of Fame.

Starr is not the only big name on the way. There are a host of others on the way including Mike Gatting and Jonathan Agnew in Rain Stops Play (February 4), the Barron Knights in Bop Till We Drop (February 18), Kate O'Mara in September Tide (March 5-10), Victor Spin-etti in The Ghost Train (April 16-21) and Faye Tozer from Steps in Dial M For Murder (May 8-12).

Drama fans are in for a real treat this season with no less than five very different plays, kicking off with the fabulous Perfect Pitch on February 5 followed by the subtle love story September Tide, then the haunting Ghost Train.

Dial M for Murder will have you on the edge of your seats and romantics can get swept away with the epic Far from the Madding Crowd (May 21-26).

The Vienna Festival Ballet makes a welcome return to the Crewe theatre with the beautiful ballet Swan Lake on May 4 while musical fans definitely shouldn't miss That'll be the Day on February 14 and 15.

This new production, combines more than 100 popular hits, spanning from the 50s to the present day, with great comedy and never fails to surprise and entertain.

Older theatre goers can sing along with all their Blitz favourites in the popular variety show We'll Meet Again on April 13 while rockers can enjoy the sounds of tribute acts stunning tributes acts Are you Experienced?, the Jimi Hendrix tribute on February 22, and The Real Diamond, a Neil Diamond tribute on April 14.

Theatre spokeswoman Philippa Unett said: 'We are really excited. 2007 is shaping up to be another brilliant year at the Lyceum.'
