LIVERPOOL'S Unity Theatre has announced a spring season brimming over with award-winning companies.

It opens on Friday, January 12, with Liverpool's Big Wow, who return to the Unity with Insomnobabble.

A sell-out last spring and the must-see show at the Edinburgh Festival, Tim and Matt won Best New Comedy Play at Edinburgh 2006 (Audience Award) and were nominated for The Stage Best Ensemble Award.

Other award winners and nominees heading for the Unity this spring include James Brough and Helen Elizabeth's The Pool, Scotsman Fringe First Winners for innovation and outstanding new writing.

On January 24 and 25 you can see this story of how a cockney chancer stranded in Liverpool hooks up with scouser Tina. What follows is a lyrical fairytale of fate and friendship.

Edinburgh Fringe winner The Receipt comes to the Unity on February 27.

It's a detective tale about a man on the trail of the owner of a receipt.

Writers Guild Best Theatre Newcomers, Network of Stuff, make their Unity debut with The Unsinkable Clerk, a hilariously accidental adventure, on March 23.

On April 27 and 28 James Seabright presents What I Heard About Iraq, a vital and powerful drama documenting the actual words of politicians, soldiers and civilians, which won the Scotsman Fringe First Award for innovation and outstanding new writing.

Other highlights between January and April include Greg McLaren in How To Build A Time Machine on February 20. This is a blend of science, love and the contents of a garden shed, all with a dash of comedy.

People Show return to Unity in their 40th birthday year with an extravagant promenade performance on March 27 and 28 which takes over both the theatre and a bus outside.

Bob Farquhar's new play Bad Jazz is a gratuitous and twisted comedy farce that exploits and satirises modern theatre.

Natasha is an actress in a taboo-breaking play. How far will she go, how far will her boyfriend let her go? Find out on April 3 and 5.
