AQUADIS is an Ellesmere Port-based swimming club with a difference.
It caters for people of all ages suffering from a wide range of disabilities and is in constant need of funding and support, which is why Sylvia Blundell, a volunteer and supporter of Aquadis, contacted the Make A Wish campaign to apply for a WishSprite grant.
She said: 'I have been involved for years with this group which I think is extremely deserving of your support. They are always in need of volunteers.'
The club meets every Tuesday, is run by a group of volunteers and is open to people of all ages.
Ms Blundell said: 'We have ME sufferers, stroke victims, epileptics and people with hearing problems. The members are all disabled in some way and benefit from the use of the Epic leisure facilities.'
Recently the club has managed to raise enough money to purchase a boat to be used by the swimming club members. The organisers intend to integrate sailing into the activities they offer.
Club president Ruth Murray says a WishSprite grant of £1,000 would enable them to fund this activity:
'The money would help to buy wet suits and equipment for the trips on the boat.'
The many volunteers at the club endeavour to provide a safe, friendly environment in which its members are given the opportunity to participate in an activity that wouldn't normally be available to them.
The club tries to vary the group's activities as much as possible and so as well as funding the boat activities the WishSprite grant would also go towards organising regular outings to places like Blackpool and coordinating social events such as barbecues and parties.
