CALLING all budding actors and actresses! Do you love drama? Would you like the chance to perform at Chester's Gateway Theatre? If the answer is 'yes' then here is the answer - come along to one of the fun-packed Shell Summer School weeks. Open to children aged 14 and under, the week-long course is led by theatre professionals and is designed to introduce and develop skills in the performing arts. Throughout the week there will be a series of drama and improvisation exercises that will help youngsters create their own characters and stories and on the final day there will be a performance to show off all the hard work learned from the week. Sponsored by Shell UK, this will be the fourth summer school at the Gateway and there will be much laughter, excitement and drama. Each course will run from Monday to Saturday from 10am-4pm and costs just £90 per week. Where's the Bear? is the summer school for 7 -11 year olds that runs from August 2-7. Pupils will join in the hunt for fun and adventure which all begins with one mysterious bear. As the search continues for the elusive creature they are sure to encounter fun, danger and intrigue. In this week of adventure children will learn exciting new skills in performing arts including storytelling, movement and improvisation. Packed with activity and bursting with energy, children will explore a world full of new friends, magic and mystery. Get Out! Stay Out! is the summer school for 11-14 year olds that runs from August 9-14. The magical four words grant pupils the opportunity to go anywhere, do anything and be whatever they want to be. Given the chance what will they do? This gives pupils the opportunity to explore the endless possibilities of the imagination as they are realised through personal stories devised by the group. As the adventure unfolds, friend-ships will be formed, new landscapes discovered and dreams will be lived. During the week through a range of diverse activities including improvisation, writing, movement and devising, participants will develop and enhance their knowledge and skills of the performing arts. Inspired by music, poetry and stories, participants will devise a challenging piece of theatre to provoke and maybe even shock. With colourful characters and powerful plots, this promises to be a week of pure drama. The summer school costs £90 per person and concessions are £70 per person. Tickets for the end of week performance are £5. For more information contact the Learning and Outreach Dept on 01244 |
