Cheshire’s newest live music venue The M Club prepares to stage its first feature event, welcoming hillbilly hell-raisers Hayseed Dixie on Monday, August 13.
The High Street club in Crewe, converted from the old Apollo Cinema and with a capacity of 800, opened its doors in June with an all-day festival featuring local talent.
Since that time, club owners Chris McGarrigle and Phil Martin have worked to entice bigger name acts from further afield, with Hayseed Dixie the first in an impressive summer-autumn lineup.
Originally established as an AC/DC tribute act with a twist, they soon found themselves covering other bands, and their latest album offering Weapons of Grass Destruction shows a diversity which includes a bizarre take on the Scissor Sister’s I Don’t Feel Like Dancing.
Phil Martin says: ‘There’s no doubting that Hayseed Dixie are a hard working band taking every opportunity to promote their own brand of ‘Rockgrass’.
‘They are masters of their instruments and while there’s no doubting they enjoy reinventing classic songs, they have a unique sound built on lightning fast banjo, fiddle and mandolin arrangements.’
Forthcoming gigs include visits from The Damned and Stiff Little Fingers, and the club hopes to confirm dates for the Fun Lovin’ Criminals and indie band Little Man Tate.
