IT WAS with slight apprehension that I booked a Saturday night table for two at The Living Room in the centre of Chester.
My initial impression of the first class restaurant and bar was that it was a haven for the Cheshire glitteratti and well heeled.
Any reservations I had melted away as a smiling waitress complimented my on my shoes. Ha ha, I thought to myself, even my trusty River Island creations could cut mustard in The Living Room.
The cosy eating area upstairs, which overlooks the bar area, was filled with black leather booths and the walls were draped with cream linen, creating a relaxed yet exclusive atmosphere.
As I looked around at my fellow diners my eyes met with designer clad and perfectly preened middle aged couples and larger groups of young people getting their Saturday night off to a great start.
As we browsed the extensive and tempting cocktails list, live piano music drifted up from the bar area below, creating the perfect amount of background noise.
The menu is ever changing and filled with enticing dishes that could coax the skinniest of catwalk model to fill her boots.
For starters I chose the deep fried salt and pepper squid with fresh tartar and lemon (£5.45), while my other half, Scott, opted for the Duck spring rolls with shitake salsa (£5.75). Both were presented to us on square white dishes and were absolutely delicious, delivered to our table in extra quick time.
