IT'S better known as one of the few venues in Chester offering 'real' music, both live and from the decks.
But Telford's Warehouse is also home to a restaurant. Even on a night out there it would be impossible to remain ignorant to the existence of the upstairs dining area. And this is not simply the standard bar fare you might expect at such a venue; Telford's clearly takes its culinary offering seriously. The website flags up 'Live Music, Quality Food' and the menu is a professional affair, offering a wide range of starters, regular dishes, a meat grill, fish grill, pasta, salads and sandwiches. My friend and I ended up eating there quite accidentally, having neglected food while enjoying a few end-of-the-working-week drinks on a Friday. The canalside location at Tower Wharf is a little out of town and we went there, as usual, for the atmosphere and music rather than to satisfy our appetites. But once we learned there was a table free in 40 minutes, at 9.30pm, there was no turning back. Originally conceived by industrial engineer Thomas Telford in the 1790s, the Georgian-era feel is alive in the building in the shape of high ceilings, exposed timbers and industrial artefacts. The upstairs area is split into two sections, both decorated with bright, contemporary art. To the left there are comfy leather sofas and a bar, while through an arch to the right is the main restaurant area. |
