The WOW factor

Amore

by Dave Fox, Chester Chronicle

The Amore Bar Restaurant in High Street, Frodsham

SAD person that I am, it takes a lot to drag me away from the X-Factor on a Saturday night - and it had damn well had better be worth it.

With half an intention of getting back to at least find out the judges' verdict, I opted to take my partner along to the Amoré Bar Restaurant in High Street at Frodsham. It already had one redeeming feature in that it is just 200 yards from our front door.

Strange then, that we had never been there before. It was high time to take a change from Indian, Chinese and the well-worn round of pub meals.

If you are going somewhere special the only way should be up. Amoré fits the bill with a large, comfortable bar on the ground floor while the eating area is upstairs in the Loft Restaurant.

First impressions were favourable. Discreet lighting, polished granite-topped tables, red leather chairs, designer cutlery and a tasteful single flower in a thin-stemmed vase - this place means business.

As a converted loft, there are no windows, just skylights, No matter, this is not a restaurant where you are ever going to be bored enough to want to gaze out of the window. It's got style. It aims to wrap you in a cloak of relaxation and you quickly feel you are in for something special.

The welcome was warm. Because we were early there were still more staff than customers. Dropped napkins were caught before they hit the floor but we weren't overpowered.

I was soon so chilled out that I even thought twice about ordering a bottle of Bonnes Maree Grand Cruz at a trifling £83.95, Instead, I slapped myself on the back of the head and opted for a very pleasant bottle of Australian Shiraz-Cabernet at £13.95.

The new á la carte menu at Amoré specialises in fish. It is all at a set price depending on how many courses you have, which always delights me. Better to make a decision on what you fancy eating, not on the cost.
