After all, we had been looking for something a little different from the norm in choosing this private members venue on Watergate Street Row in celebrating a friend's big 30.
But any negative musings can end right here; this is an excellent restaurant and judging by our experience there can't be too many like it.
The private members status applies to the bar area only, with the restaurant open for public bookings.
Tucked away innocuously on The Rows, however, you do wonder how many people even know of Politic's existence.
With the cold winter well and truly setting in now, it offers a cosy, dimly lit retreat, and an innovative take on common perceptions of a hearty meal.
