Nostalgic way to see Cheshire countryside

Mar 19 2008

A TRIP aboard the Cheshire Gardens Express will provide nostalgia for steam train fans in Mid Cheshire this spring.

The day out on May 4 has been laid on to mark 40 years since the end of steam trains on the Mid Cheshire Line and the launch of Cheshire’s Year of the Gardens.

On offer are two round trips between Altrincham and Chester, calling at all intermediate stations including Lostock Gralam, Northwich, Greenbank and Cuddington, and journeys on the Middlewich branch between Crewe and Altrincham, which has been closed to regular steam trains since 1968.

Mark Willcox, community rail officer, said: “The steam train is a great way to sample the Mid Cheshire railway line and see the beautiful Cheshire countryside.”

See www.cheshiregardensexpress.org.uk for details, or you can request a booking form from John Oates, Swallowfield, Slade Lane, Mobberley, Knutsford WA16 7QN.
